The Last Voice of Los Panchos took the U.S. by storm in the months following their 1944 Hispanic Theater performance in New York. Shortly after that debut they were playing the Waldorf Astoria, the city's Paramount Theater and Radio City Music Hall. CBS quickly signed the group. In 1948 they began to appear on Mexican radio, creating an instant sensation. By the end of the decade the ensemble was appearing throughout the world, playing before European royalty and to huge audiences in Japan. The trio's style was soon copied by numerous groups throughout the world, who billed themselves as playing in "the style Panchista". In 1964 pop singer Eydie Gorme, of Sephardic Spanish heritage, recorded the album Amor with Trio Los Panchos, followed by More Amor in 1965, capitalizing on the American popularity of Latin pop music. Amor spent nearly six months on the pop charts. Although most Americans kew her only through American pop hits in the 1950s, such tunes as "You Nedd Hands" and "Too Close for Comfort," her Latin music had a huge followin outside the country. Her radio show, Una Cita con Eydie (A Date with Eydie) was broadcast throughout Latin America for many years. The music of Trio Los Panchos found a new audience in the 1990's, thanks to the popularity of ranchero singers and pop artists who began recording some of the group's classic tunes. Singer Luis Miguel released a trilogy of Romance albums featuring some of these classics, which sold more than a million copies. In 1998 Trio Los Panchos appeared in new recordings thanks to the wonders of technology. On pop singer Jose Luis Rodriguez's release, entitled "Inolvidable", Rodriguez sings to a background Trio Los Panchos. In several cuts he sings "in duet" with the trio. Throughout the album he blends his own voice by the group Los Trios entitled "Nuestro Amor", and another tribute album to the group by Vicente Fernandez entitled "Recordando a Los Panchos". Further albums honoring the ensemble continue to appear. The tio genre created - or a least updated - by Trio Los Panchos shows no sign of disappearing. In 1996 Los Tres Reyes, one of most prominent groups in the Los Panchos' genre, performed with the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra to rave reviews. It seems that the gentle, sentimental boleros introduced in the 1940s by the men of Los Panchos stand up in the face of both time and adaptation. Biography taken from the Trio Los Panchos song book by
Hal Leonard which you can find it at any music store all around the world.
